0:00   Dean Acheson discusses the Korean situation. He had obtained a United Nations resolution "asking all parties to return within their borders and cease any aggression." The Russians obstructed the work of the commission.
0:24   Mr. Acheson states that the Russians wouldn’t permit the commission to enter North Korea, but they did withdraw their troops at the end of December, 1948. Later, incursions into South Korea as far as 20 miles; some lasted for a week or more.
1:09   Mr. Acheson discusses military recommendations, mentioning General Douglas MacArthur. Mr. Acheson discusses the Joint Chiefs of Staff recommendation signed by General Eisenhower that American forces be withdrawn "at the earliest date possible." Our representatives to the United Nations were told to be available the next day.
