Reel 1

0:00   Harry S. Truman discusses how the situation in Korea made it necessary for him to meet with General Douglas MacArthur. He had invited MacArthur to come and make a report as other generals had done, but MacArthur wouldn't come, "something was always in the way, he just couldn’t make it."
0:37   Mr. Truman states that it was absolutely necessary to have a meeting with General MacArthur , so "if he wouldn't come to me, I would go to him." The meeting was essential because of persistent rumors that the communist Chinese were coming in.
1:04   Harry S. Truman discusses leaving from St. Louis to fly to Wake Island, that it was a difficult flight. He said some people told him that the General didn't salute him. "I didn't give a damn whether he saluted me or not." What he needed was a private meeting with MacArthur to ask him about the Chinese. He later called a meeting of the entire staff where MacArthur declared that "Red China would not come in to Korea."
2:26   Mr. Truman states: "And then you know that happened." Mr. Truman details how the Chinese poured in, driving us back. He said he and the American people were worried about a world war if we got mixed up with the Chinese communists.
