Harry S. Truman, in the lobby of the Harry S. Truman Library, speaks about the mural by Thomas Hart Benton, "Independence and the Opening of the West." He describes the symbolism in the mural, and also discusses the five flags on display in the lobby. Film with sound.
SD-quality copies of already digitized motion pictures are available for $20, and HD-quality copies of already digitized motion pictures are $50. Copies of motion pictures not already digitized will incur additional costs.

The mural is intended to show three great trails. Mr. Truman discusses the history of the trails, Santa Fe, California, and Oregon, which originated in Independence. | ||

He discusses the five flags in the lobby; the 35th Division flag, the British, French, American, and Spanish flags. They represent the people who settled this part of the country. The flags had been given to the Liberty Memorial, and they set them in the basement and let them rot. The flags were now replaced and on display. | |
