0:00 Harry S. Truman, seated at a desk, recalls his friendship with Eddie Jacobson. They were friends in Battery F at the beginning of World War I, then when Eddie Jacobson became the canteen sergeant. After the war, they opened a haberdashery. The first year it was a wonderful business, but then "old man Mellon wrung out the poor people and we both went broke."
1:04 Harry S. Truman speaks of then going into politics, and eventually Eddie started another store, at 39th and Main.
1:20 Mr. Truman says it was an honest to goodness friendship, they were closer than kin. "I’ve been proud of that association I had with him."
