Description

An American map titled "Newsmap for the Armed Forces: Monday, April 16, 1945." The map of the European theater shows railroads, roads, rivers, international boundaries, battle lines on the Western and Eastern front as of April 10, 1945, and activity at the Ruhr Pocket. This map also shows the current battle line on the Italian front and describes the movement of the British Eighth Army across the Senio River. The map of the Pacific theater describes American landings at Tawitawi and Masbate in the Philippines, a Japanese air attack on Okinawa, and a sea battle in the East China Sea that included the sinking of the Japanese battleship "Yamato." The map of Okinawa shows roads, airfields, battle lines as of April 10, 1945, and areas under American and Japanese control. Printed text reveals news on multiple fronts. On the back, an enlarged photo of a United States Savings Bond is accompanied by printed text that states: "it will look even bigger...after the war!"
