Description

An American map titled "Newsmap for the Armed Forces: Monday, February 28, 1944." The map of the European theater shows railroads, rivers, boundaries, and the path of a series of Allied air attacks. The map of New Ireland, New Britain, and adjacent areas shows relief, rivers, and highlights key locations such as Rabaul and Kavieng. The map of the Truk Islands identifies islands and passes in the chain. The larger map of the Pacific theater identifies distances from Tokyo to the Truk Islands, Truk to Rabaul, New Britain, and Truk to Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. Printed text and photographs reveal news on multiple fronts. On the back is a printed image resembling the Parteiadler, though in this version the eagle is grasping a swastika enveloped Earth. Printed text that accompanies the image reads: "In Mein Kampf, Hitler stated that his plan was to destroy France first, then England; after which he would have the United States cornered without a fight!.."
