COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The William Radner Papers are comprised of correspondence, newspaper clippings, drafts of legislation, reports, and memoranda mostly related to his work as General Counsel of the War Shipping Administration.

The collection includes official correspondence between Radner, government officials, shipping industry executives, and others associated with the War Shipping Administration; letters of recommendation written by Radner for former colleagues and employees; memoranda and reports relating to the activities of the War Shipping Administration and the U.S. Maritime Commission during World War II; materials concerning the celebration of National Maritime Day in York, Pennsylvania in 1944; documents relating to Radner’s involvement with the Sea Transport Mobilization Survey, a project of the National Security Resources Board, in 1948-1950; newspaper obituaries marking Radner’s death in 1951; and the transcript of a hearing before the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1946 concerning competition between water and railroad freight-carriers.
