The papers of Victor M. Longstreet include correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports and other items relating to Mr. Longstreet's work at the Department of State and the Economic Cooperation Administration (ECA). The collection is arranged in a single series, the Subject File.
The Subject File contains Longstreet's civil service position description as a Program Review Officer with the Economic Cooperation Administration at The Hague in the Netherlands, as well as a memo from Longstreet to Alan Valentine, Chief of the Netherlands Mission. The correspondence of Longstreet includes communications with United States government officials, and with Second Secretary A.E. Ritchie in Canada and French Ambassador Henri Bonnet concerning post-war aid to Europe. In addition to correspondence addressed to or authored by Longstreet, the collection includes correspondence among other parties pertaining to his various positions in the Department of State and the Economic Cooperation Administration. Content includes copies of memoranda on "Negotiations with the Netherlands for Settlement of Overall War Accounts," "Plan A Claim against Italy and Greece," and "Technical Mission to Brazil."
The Subject File also contains printed materials including press clippings from The New York Times, and reports by the State Department and the European Recovery Program on the Netherlands and Economic Cooperation.
The John F. Kennedy Library has an online oral history interview with Longstreet. Other collections at the Truman Library that relate to economic aid to Europe after World War II include the papers of Paul G. Hoffman and Will Clayton.
