The Thomas C. Atkeson Papers include articles, evaluation studies, memos, reports, printed materials, correspondence, speeches and statements, and organizational data pertaining to his career with the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service from 1945 to 1954. The collection also contains speeches by George J. Schoeneman, Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
The collection contains articles written by Atkeson on the Bureau of Internal Revenue and correspondence. The collection also contains records of the organization and basic functions of the Internal Revenue Service including budget, programs and objectives, employment taxes, excise taxes, delinquency and audit, internal communications, and further decentralization. These records also address broad and troublesome problems within the Bureau including public relations, working relationship between headquarters and field installations, appropriations, and training employees.
Printed materials include an interview with Internal Revenue Commissioner John Dunlap and, a statement by Thomas Atkeson on the reorganization of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
The collection also contains statements by George J. Schoeneman to the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and to the Philadelphia Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute.
This collection also contains speeches and statements made by Thomas C. Atkeson. These speeches are progress reports, proposals, and statements made to professional associations pertaining to the management and planning of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
