Included are newspaper clippings, photographs, invitations, and other printed materials having to do with Mrs. Seibel’s membership in Bess W. Truman’s bridge club and her association with the Truman family.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Thelma (Mrs. Mell) Pallette was a friend of Bess W. Truman and a member of her bridge club in Independence, Missouri. Her second husband was Mr. Clifford Seibel.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

This collection is made up of the contents of two scrapbooks compiled by Thelma Pallette Seibel, dating from 1945 to 1982. The two volumes of the scrapbook deal with Mrs. Seibel’s membership in Bess W. Truman’s bridge club, their visit to the White House, and other topics concerning the Truman family.

The first volume largely focuses on the bridge club and their visit to the White House in April 1946. Included are newspaper clippings and photographs discussing and depicting this visit. Also included are pictures of the White House interior and other landmarks and monuments that Mrs. Seibel visited in the Washington D.C. area.

The second volume focuses on the Truman family. Included are pictures of Harry, Bess, and their daughter Margaret. Also included are correspondence and invitations having to do with events and banquets the Truman’s attended, and various printed materials.
