COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Robert T. Ragland include letters, telegrams, and postcards from Harry S. Truman and others. Also included are cards, tickets, and press clippings. The collection is arranged in a single Subject File.

The collection contains correspondence from Truman to Ragland, his first cousin once removed. They include letters and postcards sent from France, where Truman was serving with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. A number of letters dating from Truman’s years in the U.S. Senate relate to requests from Ragland for help in finding a job with the government.

A few letters dating from the 1970s invite Ragland and his family to events at the Truman Library. Other letters to Ragland in the collection were written by Martha Ellen Truman, the President’s mother, and Victor Messall of Truman’s Senate staff.

Ragland’s papers were originally open for research as part of the Miscellaneous Historical Documents Collection (MHDC 511).
