COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Niles W. Bond are comprised of correspondence relating to the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Korea. A list of the documents is also included in the collection.

The documents include letters and memoranda exchanged between the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Army, and other officials. The correspondence reflects deliberations within the U.S. Government as to when to withdraw U.S. troops from Korea. The date of withdrawal was postponed to allow the U.N. General Assembly to meet and consider the Korean problem, but there was a general consensus that U.S. troops should be evacuated from Korea as soon as possible.

The Truman Library also has an oral history interview with Niles W. Bond.
