The Papers of Maurice Solomon include programs from commendation dinners and ceremonies honoring former President Harry S. Truman, his friend Eddie Jacobson, and Jewish leaders in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Also included is correspondence between Rabbi Solomon, Mr. Truman, and others; photographs of dinners and other events attended by Mr. Truman; place cards; the annual report of the Harry S. Truman Research Institute in Jerusalem for 1971-1972; and information about events held at the Institute in 1978 to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of Israel.
President Truman recognized the sovereign state of Israel in 1948 and thereafter was celebrated by the Jewish Community around the world and in America. Maurice Solomon was a personal friend of Truman. The two met through Eddie Jacobson, Truman's U.S. Army associate and business partner, and Solomon's friend from his synagogue in Kansas City, Missouri. All three men sought to promote peace between Israel and the rest of the world through such projects as the Harry S. Truman Research Institute.
Other collections at the Truman Library relating to Israel include the papers of Edward Jacobson, A. J. Granoff, and Harry S. Truman.
