BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Joseph F. Healey

Joseph F. Healey was born on November 12, 1891. A resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, he was a close friend of Harry S. Truman. He and his wife, Faustina, were married on April 16, 1921.

Healey served as secretary to Congressman Richard M. Duncan for ten years. From 1945 to 1947, he was executive secretary to Senator Frank P. Briggs. In 1949, he was appointed Associate Member of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals for Vocational Rehabilitation and Education in the Veterans Administration.

Healey died in St. Petersburg, Florida, on August 15, 1968.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Joseph F. Healey mainly consist of invitations, printed materials, and memorabilia related to the Inauguration ceremonies of four presidents and other special events.

Included among the materials in this collection are invitations to the Inauguration ceremonies of Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933, 1947, 1941), Harry S. Truman (1949), Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953), and John F. Kennedy (1961), as well as programs from the Roosevelt and Truman ceremonies.

In addition to these materials, other items in the collection include cards and programs for other special events; newspaper articles concerning Truman, the 1933 Inauguration of Roosevelt, and the dedication of the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City in 1921; and letters to Healey from President Truman and other prominent persons.

Some of these papers were originally opened for research as part of the Miscellaneous Historical Documents Collection (MDHC 256).
