The Joseph E. Reeve Papers are comprised of memorandums, correspondence, speeches and statements, tables, routing slips, and printed materials. The papers relate to Reeve's service as an economist with the Bureau of the Budget. The collection consists of one series, a Chronological File, arranged chronologically.
A majority of the materials within the collection are memorandums and correspondence which convey the results of inter-agency discussions and recommendations for actions addressing topics such as budget policy, housing, federal loan programs, interest rates, public works financing, federal credit programs, public debt management, area redevelopment, flood insurance, the Farmers Home Loan Bank, the International Home Loan Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC), and legislative proposals in these areas.
The first folder of the collection contains biographical information and printed materials provided by Reeve when he donated his papers to the American Heritage Center. Longhand lists created by Reeve appear at the beginning of each year in the folders that follow. These lists categorize the records for each year based on the following codes:
