The papers of J. Thomas Schneider include correspondence, printed materials, handwritten notes, financial records, organizational charts, reports, speeches, and other documents regarding Schneider’s life and career in government. The collection is arranged in a single Subject File.
The collection includes personal records, address books, business cards, and biographical information about Schneider, as well as notes from his law classes in the 1930s. The collection also contains information concerning Schneider’s service with the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and with the Departments of Defense, Commerce, and Justice.
The topics covered by this material include: a loan to Great Britain in 1941; the Joint Committee on the Military-Contractor Relationship; court cases involving the Justice Department and antitrust law; and Commerce Secretary Charles Sawyer’s mission to Europe in 1952.
The Truman Library also has oral history interviews with J. Thomas Schneider and with Assistant Secretary of Commerce Thomas C. Blaisdell, Jr. In addition, the Library has the papers of Blaisdell and the papers of Secretary of Commerce Charles Sawyer.
