The papers of Coy B. Rowley include reports on train accidents, correspondence, and other documents relating to Rowley’s work as a locomotive inspector for the Interstate Commerce Commission. The collection is arranged in a single Subject File.
The collection contains accident reports from the years 1940 to 1955, as well as other materials related to Rowley’s service as an inspector, such as charts, maps, notes, and repair notices. The collection also contains speeches and statements concerning the railroad industry and printed materials relating to locomotives.
Much of the collection is comprised of letters recommending Rowley for Director or Assistant Director of the Bureau of Locomotive Inspection, which was part of the Interstate Commerce Commission. Rowley was unsuccessful in obtaining these appointments in 1949. A letter from Harry S. Truman regarding one of these recommendation letters is included in the collection.
