COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The records of Battery D, 129th Field Artillery, provide administrative information about the unit primarily during the period of its service in France in 1918 and 1919. They give information about enlistments, discharges, furloughs, transfers, training, promotions, equipment, medical problems, disciplinary actions, pay allotments, and disbursements. They do not include reports about action in combat experienced by the unit. The records are copies of original documents in the holdings of the National Archives and Records Administration.

The records are arranged in a subject file. Two "Correspondence Books" index a body of correspondence by the name of the person involved and provide a brief description of the purport of each item. These two books apparently do not list items from the three folders of correspondence that are present in this file group. There is some correlation, however, between the listings in the correspondence books and the material in the other folders. The extent of correlation is uncertain, but at least some of the items listed in the correspondence books are present in these folders. Harry S. Truman is a frequent correspondent in this material.
