The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) was established on July 1, 1970. This Office assists the President in preparing the budget and in formulating fiscal programs, and supervises the administration of the budget, in addition to other functions. During President Harry S. Truman's administration, this Office was known as the Bureau of the Budget (BOB). In addition to other responsibilities, the BOB staff advised the President on whether to sign or veto bills passed by Congress, and prepared a daily record of Presidential activities.
These records consist of President Harry S. Truman's daily appointment schedules, with related press releases, newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, executive orders, proclamations, nominations, Congressional legislation, and reports of the President's Committee on Religion and Welfare in the Armed Forces, as compiled by the Bureau of the Budget.
