Join us for an online discussion with Hugh Wilford, the author of The CIA: An Imperial History. Purchase, rent, or borrow a copy of the book and join us for a presentation and discussion of the CIA, which was created by Harry S. Truman in 1947. You are welcome to attend even if you have not read the book.
Hugh Wilford is Professor of United States History at California State University, Long Beach. Born and educated in the UK, he taught previously at the University of Sheffield. He is the author of several books about the CIA, including The Mighty Wurlitzer: How the CIA Played America (Harvard University Press, 2008) and America’s Great Game: The CIA’s Secret Arabists and the Shaping of the Modern Middle East (Basic Books, 2013). The CIA: An Imperial History was published in June 2024 simultaneously by Basic Books in the United States and Basic UK. The New Yorker named it a 2024 Book of the Year and the Times a History Book of the Year.
