An Investment Property
This house was deeded to Harry and Bess Truman in December 1920 by David H. Morgan, Truman's partner in an oil exploration and brokerage business in 1916 and 1917. Truman owned the house for only four months, and he never lived in it. This is the only house he ever owned until he and Bess bought 219 North Delaware Street from the estate of Bess's mother in 1953. Something unpleasant must have happened in the short time Truman owned this house. "My 1920 experience buying a house," he wrote Bess on July 12, 1935, "almost made a coward out of me."
The house is located about 3 1/2 miles south and west of downtown Kansas City.
