Students will be divided into three groups. Group 1 will get and mark a map that shows all paved roads in Miami county in 1920. Group 2 will do the same for all paved roads in 1930. The final group will do the same for the year 1940.
This project will examine the effect of Federal Programs of the 1930s on the rate of road paving in the various decades. We will also explore the impact of road building on various parts of the nature and growth of the county.

- Each group will go the the County Clerks office to get a copy of their map.
- I have provided for any printing costs.
- Each group will then mark in contrasting colors the paved and non paved roads in the county.
- They will then research the two newspapers for articles about roads in their decade and make copies of, and submit those articles.
- I have checked to be sure that both newspapers have all editions for these decades.
- Each student will then prepare a short presentation on their view of the impact of paved roads on things like school, agriculture, growth of cities and towns, the economy, churches, etc.
- I will assess both the quality and accuracy of their map work for a group grade.
- I will check each students articles both for numbers and relevance to the topic
- I will develop a presentation rubric for the presentation
