The President received the Boys' Forum of the National Government of the American Legion. Approximately 100 boys were received. This is held annually on the campus of the American University. The appointment was requested by Commander Perry Brown of the American Legion. The President also received the Forum in 1947 and 1948.) The President received the first Forget-me-not opening the Drive of the Disabled American Veterans. The following were present: David Brown, National Commander Vivian Corbely, National Adjutant Cicero Hogan, National Director of Claims Frank Sullivan, National Legislative Officer William Slattery, Department Commander Donald Dunn, Chairman Forget-me-not Drive Earl Hendricks,Jr., Vice Chairman Patrick McGinnis, Vice Chairman (The President opened their drive in 1947)
Then went aboard the USS WILLIAMSBURG accompanied by Mrs. Truman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wallace, Mr. William Hassett, Mr. Charles Ross, Mr. Clark Clifford, General Harry Vaughan, Admiral Robert Dennison, General Robert Landry, General Wallace Graham, Mr. Charles Murphy, Mr. David Stowe and Commander MacDonald. Also the Secretary of the Navy [Francis P. Matthews] and the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Fahrion. These guests joined the President and Mrs. Truman for lunch aboard and afterwards witnessed the afternoon's program for the quarterdeck. All guests departed the ship about 4.30 p.m. The President, Mrs. Truman and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace left the pier aboard the USS WILLIAMSBURG for a weekend cruise.
Vice Admiral R. V. Symonds-Taylor, C.B., D.S.C., the Commander-in-Chief, America and West Indies Squadron H.E. The Rt. Hon. Sir Oliver Franks, the British Ambassador (Request came to Mr. Woodward from British Ambassador. Adm. Symonds-Taylor arrived Washington on H.M.S. SNIPE, Sept. 28, and will remain until Oct. 4th. The President received his predecessor, Adm. Sir William Tennant, October 2, 1947)

The President received winners of the Eleventh Annual Science Talent Search - 1952. (The President has received previous groups in 1945, 1947, 1949, 1950 and 1951. Mrs. Truman received them in 1946 when the President was out of town. These are winners from group of three hundred boys and girls believed to have unusual potential scientific ability, selected from 1952 senior classes of U. S. Secondary Schools.
