| The President signed HR 1621, An Act "To authorize the Secretary of War to lend War Department equipment and provide services to the Boy Scouts of America in connection with the World Jamboree of Boy Scouts to be held in France, 1947; and to authorize the Commissioner of Internal Revenue to provide exemption from transportation tax; and further to authorize the Secretary of State to issue passports to bona fide Scouts and Scouters without fee for the application or the issuance of said passports." | After docking at the Navy Yard at 8.30 a.m., the entire party remained aboard until 10.10 a.m., at which time the President, accompanied by Under Secretary of State Dean Acheson, who joined the party at the dock, together with Admiral James Foskett, and General Harry Vaughan disembarked from the USS WILLIAMSBURG, entered the awaiting automobiles, and motored direct to the ATC Terminal, National Airport, arriving at 10.23 a.m., and awaited the arrival of Secretary George Marshall's plane at 10.45 a.m. The President greeted the Secretary of State as he left his plane. Both posed for pictures and spoke over the newsreel microphone. After bidding each other good-bye, the President accompanied by General Harry Vaughan and Admiral James Foskett, entered his car and returned direct to the Navy Yard, arriving there at 11.07 a.m. Following lunch and at about 2.40 p.m. all the overnight guests, excepting Admiral James Foskett, General Harry Vaughan and Mr. Clark Clifford, departed from the USS WILLIAMSBURG. Between 4.30 and 5.00 p.m. five new guests came aboard and joined the President, Chief Justice Fred Vinson; Mr. George Allen; The Secretary of Agriculture [Clinton P. Anderson]; The Secretary of Commerce [W. Averell Harriman]; Honorable Frank Walker; Honorable Clark Clifford. At 5.00 p.m., the WILLIAMSBURG got underway and cruised down the Potomac to a point opposite Mt. Vernon where the anchor was dropped in midstream at 6.50 p.m. Remained at this location until 9.00 a.m. Sunday. | ||
