The papers of Milton P. Kayle include correspondence, press clippings, typewritten and handwritten notes, and travel itineraries concerning Kayle's experiences as Special Assistant to the President during the administration of President Harry S. Truman, as well as drafts, transcripts, and press releases of speeches and statements made by President Truman. The collection is arranged in one series, a Subject File.
The Subject File contains correspondence with government officials regarding matters such as the promotion of Lieutenant Colonel John H. Awtry and the resignation of William O'Dwyer as the United States Ambassador to Mexico, as well as press clippings and statements regarding these events. The majority of the collection consists of drafts and transcripts of speeches and statements by President Truman. These include statements to Congress concerning legislation such as the Supplemental Appropriation Acts and Defense Production Act Amendments as well as addresses to groups such as the Association of Military Surgeons and the Democratic National Convention. The collection also includes a large number of drafts and press releases of campaign speeches given by President Truman preceding the 1952 election, as well as travel itineraries from this campaign. Several of the speeches include typewritten and handwritten notes from Kayle concerning his contributions to the speeches and remarking on President Truman's speaking style.
