COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Roman L. Horne consist mostly of correspondence, speeches, and reports related to the creation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 1944 and 1946. The collection contains many letters, speeches, publications, and reports by Horne and other officials explaining-and advocating that the United States government accept-the Bretton Woods Agreements of July 1944, which provided for the creation of the IMF and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

This collection contains documentation of the early history of the IMF, including the minutes and other materials from its inaugural meeting in Savannah, Georgia in March 1946, and an agenda and regulations for the first meeting of the organization's Executive Directors.

The collection contains relatively little information about Horne's career with the IMF after 1946.

The Truman Library also has an oral history interview with Roman L. Horne. More information about the Bretton Woods Agreement and the IMF can be found in the papers of Dean Acheson, Bernard Bernstein, John W. Snyder, Edward A. Tenenbaum, and Harry S. Truman (Official File 85-E).
